SELF DISCIPLINE

But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.
I Corinthians 9:27 NKJV

I just went through a period where I didn’t feel like doing my spiritual exercises, I felt rebellious and even went back to some things I’ve stopped doing a while (not bad things).

But even in the process I wasn’t comfortable because it didn’t feel right but I didn’t ‘feel’ like stopping or doing otherwise. It was partly due to PMS and the lazy feeling it gave me but I thought to myself that’s not an excuse, will I have to check out for certain days every month?.

This morning I prayed and thought more on it and while doing my devotion this verse spoke to me, Paul said he discipline his body and bring it into subjection.

If his body and spirit were in allignment always there’ll be no need to discipline it but for those times when they war against each other the body should always yield to the spirit.

The danger to being flesh led is that it is unsatisfiable, Solomon said he didn’t deny his eyes all it desired and at the end he said vanity. There’s no end to our wants and being ruled by it is an exercise in futility. The evil in the world right now is a result of self gratification at the expense of another.

I just thought to share this that ‘I feel like’ is not a free pass but as believer we are to discipline our self, we are to bring our body under the control of our spirit so that we don’t find ourselves being led by our body.

If we don’t master our body it will master us and the results will be disastrous.
