APRIL: RIGHTEOUSNESS

This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.
James 1:19‭-‬20 NASB

Anger is an inherent response to situations we judge unfair and unpleasant, it’s an emotion am sure we’ve all feel at one point or the other. Actually moments ago to writing this I myself was having such emotion but here the scripture admonishes us to be slow to anger. Before focusing on this we should consider what was said before; be quick to hear and slow to speak, the primary ways of showing anger is in speech and action.

When the scripture tells us to be quick to hear and slow to speak, it’s a way for us to get a handle on our emotions so it doesn’t get the best of us. Finally the Word tells us the anger of man does not achieve the righteouness of God, nothing done out of anger brings glory to God. Moses in a matter of minutes out of anger smashed the book of covenant he spent 40 days in the mountain for, even though it tries to masquerade itself as fighting for God it is like using the weapon of the devil to fight the war of God.

Now this been said it does not mean anytime we feel angry we’re in error but our actions i.e how we show our anger is what to watch. Be angry , and yet do not sin ; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity. Ephesians 4:26‭-‬27 NASB
